Use of "s" option in $regex

Hello, I want to know the usage of " * " symbol in $regex operator in " s " operation.

The “*” symbol means multiple times, check out this example on the mongodb documentation.
https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/reference/operator/query/regex/#regex-dot-new-line

Didn’t quite understand the use case of " * " symbol in the documentation example, does that mean the word line is expected multiple times?? .Elaborate explanation is appreciated!

In the documentation example the “*” is repeating the “.” symbol multiple times, and “.” is wildcard for allowing and character.
So, the regex /m.*line/ in the example will match the following strings.
“multiple line”
“m12345line”
“many trees are planted in line”
“monkeys can hang from a line”

Here is a link explaining how to use “*” symbol to repeat a single character, number, or a string.
