? on Basic Commands video:

In the video titled “Basic Commands” in Chapter 1: The Mongod, the teacher says (at 3’17"): “Depending on whether you’re using the MongoDB shell or MongoDB driver, the exact name and format of these helper methods might differ, but their purpose is to provide a shortcut for methods like this.”

What is a MongoDB driver? Is he referring to something he mentioned in an earlier video? Couldn’t find it. Tx.

Hi & Welcome,

Mongo Shell and Drivers use a different query syntax. Examples of drivers are:

  • Node.js
  • Python
  • Java
  • list goes on and on

This is an example of a find command for Node js

    const findResult = await orders.find({
      name: "Lemony Snicket"
   });

And from the mongo shell

   const findResult = db.orders.find({
      name: "Lemony Snicket",
    });

You will notice this kind of notes when reading the docs:

mongo Shell Method

This page documents the mongo shell method, and does not refer to the MongoDB Node.js driver (…)

Referring the same thing.
