Case sensitivity

Unsure if I screwed up or if there is a mismatch in the course, I created documents in movieSearch instead of MovieSearch - suddenly I had a new database. Is there a way to turn off case sensitivity?

Database names and Collection names are case sensitive. You can always recreate the DB/Collection with the appropriate name.

Hey @Jack_65930

The Mongo Shell is a interactive JS interpreter. and because JS is case sensitive then the shell is. I believe most programming is case sensitive.

Good answer from @007_jb

My understanding is that JSON itself is case sensitive which also makes BSON case sensitive so any dbs/documents/collections/fields must also be case sensitive.

The Mongo shell is a JavaScript interpreter which also enforces case sensitivity but only when it comes to classes, methods, function calls and variable use.

The drivers are written in GO which is also case sensitive.

Case sensitivity all-round! Curriculum Engineers feel free to make corrections.

Hi @Jack_65930,

As mentioned by @natac13 and @007_jb mongo shell is an interactive javascript interpreter and hence it is also case-sensitive. So, be careful with the names.

I don’t think we can do that.

Yes and the data as well

Yes, we do use Go along with many other programming languages.

Hope it helps! If you have any other issue, please feel free to get back to us.

Happy Learning
