Can't ssh to infrastructure VM

When trying to ssh to the infrastructure VM via PuTTy client , I’m getting this error.
No problems with the database VM.

Anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you resolve it?

Hi dheensa,

Are you doing M310 ? and trying to connect to m310 infrastructure ?
Please post here for better answer.

Thanks, Kanika

Hi dheensa,

One of the variances is

  • database VM is ubuntu/trusty64
  • infrastructure is centos/7

So, I’m able to ssh using gitbash and powershell.

Hope this helps,

Hi David
Thank you sir, the following fixed my problem (from the second link you provided).

  1. Open the PuTTYgen utility;
  2. Click on the Load button;
  3. open the private_key file under the VM directory structure
  4. change the value in the Number of bits in a generated key: field to 2048, leave everything else as it is
  5. Save the file as private.ppk
  6. Use this private.ppk file as the ‘private key file for authentication’ in PuTTy session config
  7. All works fine

I was wondering why the vagrant VM’s provided on these courses always prompted for a password when the keys were set up! Now I know why

Hi dheensa,

An easier solution.

Edit your /etc/ssh/sshd_config file on your infrastructure VM as below

[root@infrastructure shared]# grep PasswordAuthentication /etc/ssh/sshd_config
PasswordAuthentication yes

Restart sshd service
[root@infrastructure shared]# service sshd restart

There you go , now you are ready to connect using Putty without keys only user/pwd same as the database VM.
